Sixty-five undergraduate students (46 women) from the University of British Columbia participated in the “Restaurant Experience Study” in exchange for a course credit. The experiment was run in small groups of no more than four people per session. Each session was randomly assigned to one of the four noise conditions. Upon arrival, participants were asked to take one of the four available desks, which were strategically placed on the arc of a semicircle. The setup was identical for the control condition, except that no noise soundtrack was played.

RePEc emerged from the NetEc group ,
created in 1992, which received support for its WoPEc project between
1996-1999 by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the UK
Higher Education Funding Councils, as part of its Electronic Libraries
Programme (eLib). RePEc was created in June 1997 to decentralize the
work done by WoPEc and thus make it independent of grant needs. RePEc is
then guaranteed to remain free for all parties.
